Review: Rakuten.com Online Shopping Service

Hello guys! I'm back with a vengeance parcel. Life has been pretty great so far in Manila! But last week I've been bored and looking around for something to do in our place aside from checking out new music, talking to my family via LINE , reading what's left of my books, playing 3DS, sketching. Sometimes I get the itch to try something new. So... RAKUTEN (lol I don't get it why I landed here, too.) Have you tried ordering at Rakuten ? There's not a lot of info on ordering from here compared to other sites like Sasa.com, Adambeauty, Yesstyle etc., but I found out that prices here are quite cheaper than all those sites! I've only previously ordered internationally via Sasa.com, HK's biggest online shop. So here's the rundown: RAKUTEN vs. SASA.COM Ease of use: It's easy peasy to order at Sasa.com, very straightforward, and almost 100% English; Rakuten.com needs a lot of getting used to. Registration forms are a little daunting to fill, too. I've e...

Life: Cheap ways to have fun

I don't have friends here in Manila yet, and it's hard to find kindred spirits if you keep odd hours and don't get out as much. Staying in during the Saturdays and Sundays don't do me good because I always get restless; I mean, hey, I have every reason to look forward to the weekend--I'm on the night shift team and it's not always really great at the office because work is quite intense! I think I deserve some fun, light-hearted things to do! The only thing is I hate spending too much. Seriously, I get the hives when I spend a lot on non-essential things in life. Greencross is considerate enough to always take me somewhere, even for a walk around the block, or to the nearest mall and eat some ice cream. In this city where exorbitant living is required to have fun, we're breaking the mold and pushing the envelope in the attempt to have good, clean fun without breaking the bank! Here's some nice things I enjoyed over the weekend: Eiga Sai 2013 - Free eve...

Food: Oishi Choco Chug Oaties Milk Drink

Hello! I'd like to share to you my new favorite chocolate drink. There's lots of competition in the market, but for me this is THE BEST drink that I've ever tasted and I thought that I should share this to anyone who reads this post; random people looking for really good chocolate drinks! I saw this Choco Chug chocolate milk drink in SM Megamall last week while we were doing groceries and Greencross put it in our cart immediately after seeing the glint in my eye! I haven't seen't this choco drink before, maybe it escaped my notice because I was looking at the opposite aisle where my favorite milk is usually placed. We just opened it last Wednesday and I keep on opening and closing our little refrigerator cox it is soooo good! Look, it has a little portion on the top box that makes it immediately superior to any prepackaged drink: You mark the "cup" according to which date you opened it. I marked the Wednesday cup! Pretty helpful if you don't want to ch...

Books and Travel

I've been bit. Travel bug. Darn... it bites hard. I want to travel the entire world today. I feel like going on a travel rampage ever since I moved to this city. Before, I used to be a total settler, you know, the kind who's absolutely content at spending an entire lifetime in one place. Maybe it's the move that made me ballsy -- I realize that even if I uproot myself, nothing bad will happen to me, the world won't implode, my family wouldn't fall apart (yeah because I'm so  important a member!) and that my life wouldn't go haywire. I've been meaning to do international travel a year ago, but due to troubles with my nephew (who I had to take with me but there were problems with his passport blah blah) my Japanese visa went unused :( I was quite looking forward to it. I had my travel money saved up, a checklist of all the things I need to bring, travelogues and maps, and I even had entire playlist ready. I haven't quite moved on from that di...

Six Worlds and a New One

These are six books, the six different worlds, I have had the pleasure to read since arriving here in Manila. I've only been able to finish half of the total count. The moving AND the adjustment of moving to another place with a faster pace is stressful. The only good thing about Manila's transportation is that the 2-hour traffic gives me enough time to finish several chapters. I've loved books since 20 years ago when my sister bought me my first boxed collection of fairytales. And from then on, reading and books almost defined who I was and what I liked. There's always something I can count on to relate to when it comes to novels. I remember reading about Pinocchio and being so mad; Pinocchio ch ose to follow the bad group of circus people and he left his aging father all alone. "Pangita ug batasan uy! (His attitude is ugly!)", I said angrily. I swore to never do that to my own father under whatever circumstance. But look where I am now. A 26 year old...

Food: Healthy Dark Choco-Peanut Granola Squares Recipe

Hi everyone! If you followed my other blog, you would know by now that I'm in Manila ( A Chuvaness.com gift to welcome me in Manila! ). This is a crazy, hectic, fast-paced city--descriptions of which are the exact opposite of what I would describe my hometown, Davao City.  Greencross and I have pooled our resources to start getting rooted in this city. We are renting this small and neat condo in Soho Residential Condominiums. He has just landed a job and I dearly hope that I follow suit, too. I have a job that I've set my sights on; I really, really like the job so I'm hoping for the best. I don't have friends here in Manila, yet (except folks from Davao who are also here, thank goodness for them!) but I'm hoping that in the next few months, that'll change, too. I'll take to blogging in the meantime. This is one of the Late Bloomer blog projects I will start on: " Healthy Hacks ", a series of posts dedicated to share with you some quick and healthy...

A Chuvaness.com gift to welcome me in Manila!

Good Morning, Paranaque! Hay naku , Manila, it's another one of your extremely blinding hot days. I'm in Manila you guys ! And everything is so busy and blinking and fast and noisy and fun and superlatively exciting! Since touching down last April 1st, everything has been strange. But you can't blame me, what's 10 days when compared to 26 years? All my life I've been in Davao. Suddenly, my plane lurched and landed (none too gently I may add) at the pristine NAIA. I've been busy getting acquainted with the Metro's jeep / bus routes and trainstops. Having always been a one-route jeepney girl for a good part of my life, I was mortified to find out that there were so many ways you can easily get lost in various transportation; Manila is HUGE, myged , and you can't even ask people for directions daw . And not like I can actually muster the courage to ASK them, because my Tagalog is still lilting and funny and probinsianic . If that's even a word hah...
